Our Methodology

How we collect, verify, and present comparison data

Data Collection

We gather fee schedules, exchange rate margins, transfer limits, and processing times directly from each provider's official website. We also conduct periodic test transfers to verify published data against actual user experience. Data is updated at minimum monthly, and more frequently when providers announce changes.

Exchange Rate Methodology

All exchange rate margins are calculated relative to the mid-market rate sourced from XE.com at the time of data collection. A provider offering 0.9152 CNY per HKD when the mid-market rate is 0.9245 has an implied margin of approximately 1.01%. We display this margin clearly rather than comparing nominal rates, which can be misleading.

Total Cost Calculation

Our comparison tables display the total cost for a standardised transfer amount (typically HKD 10,000). This combines: (1) the fixed transfer fee, (2) the cost of the FX margin on the transfer amount, and (3) any other mandatory charges. Optional fees (e.g., credit card surcharges) are noted separately.

Provider Selection

We include providers that: are licensed in Hong Kong or the originating jurisdiction, have a meaningful user base for HKD transfers, and publish their fees and rates publicly. We do not include providers where pricing is available only upon account creation or requires a sales consultation.

Neutrality and Independence

No provider has paid for inclusion, ranking, or preferential placement on this platform. Where we have referral relationships, these are disclosed in our footer. The order of providers in comparison tables reflects data-driven criteria (e.g., total cost, alphabetical order) rather than commercial relationships.

Limitations

Exchange rates are dynamic and change continuously. Published margins may differ from real-time rates by a small amount. Transfer fees may vary based on payment method, verification level, or promotional status. Our data represents typical conditions for a standard user and should be used for indicative comparison only.
